Top officials from both the �鶹��ý and Civil Service Commission meet at the �鶹��ý Board room to discuss collaboration.

The �鶹��ý led by ED Glenda Relova and the Civil Service Commission are joining forces to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in civil service exams. They’re exploring measures, including a dedicated exam day for PWDs, to remove barriers, and to promote inclusivity.

This initiative underscores their commitment to fostering a more accessible and equitable civil service sector.

�鶹��ý ED Relova addresses the Second Senior Officials Meeting representing the Philippines.

During the 49th Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG) plenary meeting, �鶹��ý Executive Director Glenda Relova shared with APEC economies the need to empower persons with disabilities, including advancing their carers, to achieve inclusion.

Executive Director Relova also recommended the development of a multisectoral disability framework within the APEC framework to promote empowerment and inclusion in the economy.

�鶹��ý commences Trainer’s Training on Gender Equality focusing on Women with Disabilities

The �鶹��ý (�鶹��ý) has commenced its Trainers’ Training on the Use of Gender Equality Focusing on Women with Disabilities, running from October 3rd to 5th, 2023 at Microtel Davao City, Davao Del Sur.

This training is about empowering Trainers on the use of Gender Equality Focusing on Women with Disabilities to deliver Disability Inclusive Gender and Development (GAD) projects.

The impact of this training will go beyond the event, touching lives and communities, and fostering a more inclusive society.

The �鶹��ý team, led by Executive Director Joniro F. Fradejas and Chief of Technical Cooperation Division Mr. Dandy C. Victa, met with Mr. Sungmin Jo, Secretary General of RI Korea, and Ms. Reena Lee, Director of RI Korea, both members of the Organizing Committee of Rehabilitation International Korea on September 28. 2023.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Philippines’ readiness to take on the role and responsibilities of hosting the Global Information and Technology Challenge in 2024.

�鶹��ý Evaluates Accessibility for People With Disabilities In Calapan City Port and Vessel

Various government agencies collaborated in evaluating Accessibility for people with disabilities in Calapan City Port and Vessel. It was led by �鶹��ý Director Don Fradejas and Accessibility Consultant Architect Armand Michael Eustaquio with the help of MARINA, PPA, Philippine Coast Guard, DOT, and Accessibility Advocate Ms. Veneranda Mateo

The purpose of this project is to ensure the correct guidance, knowledge and effective fulfilment of ports and vessels in Batas Pambansa (BP) 344 or Accessibility Law and the Universal Design (UD).

One of its initiatives is to check the availability of ramps on ships and buildings, the correct size of elevators, passageways, the correct design of toilets, access symbols, etc. In this way, our brothers and sisters with disabilities can be informed of any progress or fulfilment and if a recommendation/solution is needed in the examination of the said port.

This program is continuously implemented by �鶹��ý with the support of partner government agencies.

Free Hearing Assessment

The �鶹��ý in collaboration with Barangay 171 Bagumbong Person with Disability Association Inc. conducted the Free Hearing Assessment held on September 23, 2023 in Barangay 171 Bagumbong, Zone 15, District 1, Caloocan City.

According to �鶹��ý Executive Director Joniro F. Fradejas, aside from creating Policies and Programs for the benefit of our fellowmen with disabilities, the Council also strengthens Augmentation Services by partnering with Government Agencies and Service Providers such as Audibly Hearing Aid Center that assesses hearing impaired residents in the said barangay and its nearby areas.

�鶹��ý expresses its gratitude for the unwavering support of DSWD Secretary REX Gatchalian.

5th Anniversary – The Muscular Dystrophy Association Of The Philippines (MDAP)

The Muscular Dystrophy Association of the Philippines (MDAP) celebrated its 5th Founding Anniversary on September 23, 2023. The celebration with the theme Life without limits: Beyond Disability and held in Quezon City Hall was led by the MDAP President, Ms. Michelle Catherine Sideco.

What exactly is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)?

“It is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. In muscular dystrophy, abnormal genes (mutations) interfere with the production of proteins needed to form healthy muscle.” – mayoclinic.org

The occasion commenced with a prayer led by DMD Warrior Mr. Benedict Averion followed by inspiring messages from Mr. Errol Barba from �鶹��ý, Ms. Cynthia Magdaroog from PSOD, Mr. Anthony Quinagon, from PDAO Quezon City, and Ms. Lala Raymundoa from Soroptimist International, Commonwealth. The highlight of this celebration is the giving of testimonials from the parents of DMD Warriors who encourage and support parents and children with this disease.

MDAP presented a plaque of appreciation to �鶹��ý Executive Director Janiro “Don” Fradejas for his invaluable contribution and support to the organization.

This year’s theme is “ Taong May Cerebral Palsy Mahalin, Unawain, Isama’t Iugnay Upang Kakayahan At Galing ay Pagyamanin.” Calendar of Activities for the week -long celebration was posted.

In respect to this celebration, The Department of The Interior And Local Government Issued An Advisory, Dated September 11, 2023 To All Provincial Governors, City/Municipal Mayors, Punong Barangays, DILG Regional Directors And Others Concerned To Support And Participate In The Webinars On Disability Perspective And Laws And Assisting Persons With Disabilities To Be Conducted By The National Council On Disability Affairs Via Zoom Teleconferencing And Facebook Live.
